When first opening my Backpack account, I was having trouble using it, so I used my Home page to document the problems and any changes I noted in the system as things were fixed. As I want to use my Home page for other things, here is a copy of the original with typos and all.
I should note, that all the problems noted have since been resolved. And if you’re wondering why the long periods of time with no comments by myself – I got married this May.

Update:
Due to some changes in the Firewall I’m behind, some things are broken again. See latest entrys (at bottom) for the details.
Whenever I try to set a reminder it just redisplays the page within the page. I then try there and get the same thing. It ends up looking like and iframe inside and iframe inside an iframe. In each case, I’m told that no reminders are set.
Whenerver I add a new list, the item is added but the list does nto refresh witht the item listed. Instead, the form I entered the item in just sits there blank. If i manually refresh the page, then things display correctly. Must be another firewall problem. I need to test this stuff out at home where I’m not behind a firewall.
This is strange. When I add a note, the new note is displayed unlike with the list item, however the form remains visable and is not blanked. I can either click on the close link and the form goes away, or manualy replace the test with different text for a new now and summit. Even stranger is when I edit an existing note and save changes, everything works as i imagine it really should. The note is updated with the changes and the form goes away. What gives with all the inconcistancy?
What is so weird about all this is that each of the above problems are obviously related but they each act a little differently. What makes it most frustrating is that the one feature I would most likely use is the one feature that I cannot use at all. The other features are at least usable, although certainly not ideal.
Ok, So now the reminders seem to be working. However the other stuff is still broken. At least I can use the one feature I want. As an interesting side note I was back to test things out today because I found a GreaseMonkey script XMLHttpRequest Tracing for AJAX debugging and thought I’d see what was going on. The script simply made the notes and lists refuse to work and the reminders began working fine. I disabled the script and reminders still work while notes and lists remain unchanged.
Reminders are working fine and so are lists. Just added this note and it works fine too. Good to see everything working as expected. I can actuly use Backpack now.
I was informed the other day that some tighter constraints where added to the firewall I’m stuck behind here at work. Two problems I’ve noted so far are (1) that the Refferer Header is being blocked. and (2) all ‘application’ content-types are blocked including ‘application/xml’. I have some thoughts regarding why both are stupid, but am really just testing how they effect Backpack here. If you are reading this, no problem. So here goes…
But not perfect. The add note dialog did not disappear and still contained the content. However, the new note appeared as it should, I clicked close and the dialog went away. Editing works without a hitch. Now to go complain to the network admin.
With these new restrictions on the firewall I’m behind (see 1 Jul entry) the lists work exactly as I described them on May 10. Oh well, I’m not much of a todo list user anyway.
On a semi-related note, I also just tested out the reminders and they seem to work without a hitch, which is good because that was the whole reason for me opening a backpack account to begin with.
Just thought I’d run another test. Is seems that some of those firewall restrictions has been loosened and I just upgraded to FF 1.5 the other day, which has lead to a few other things working properly. We’ll see how it goes.

Well, The note is posted no problem, but the textare is still visable. Of course, I can click the close link and I don’t have to refresh the page to make the note visable.
Yes, that note was posted twice. When the edit box didn’t go away, I just added more content, thinking maybe it would edit the note I had just posted (how convenient), but as it turns out, it thought I was adding a new note, not editing an existing one. I had to close it, then click on ‘add note’ to add this one. Although, I suppose I just could have deleted all the text and then typed this. Either way, not very intuitive.
